How To Teach Our Children About Jesus

I know that I am not the only mom out there that Seriously PRAYS for ways to teach their children about Jesus on their level of understanding. I pray this prayer quite often!!! God’s word tells us in Proverbs 22:6 to Train Up our children in the way that they should go and when they are older they will not depart from it!!! I stand on this promise!!! The majority of training is leading by example, and yall…..I have to pray daily that God help me with this…..just being real!!! Thank God for Jesus, because sometimes I am one hot mess with one mean mama attitude!!!

But on the other side of the coin, we not only must lead by example, but we also are called by God to teach them through prayer and bible study. Sometimes I feel that I am at a loss for ways to teach them to were they truly grasp what I’m trying to say, but yall they are seriously smarter then we realize. After all, God’s word tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that He has placed eternity in the hearts of man. Wow!!! Stop, and think on that verse for a minute!!! Eternity has been placed in our sweet kiddos hearts!!! That is so deep, but I find it to be so true as so often God uses them to teach me some eternal things even though they may not even realize it!! I am certain that this verse goes so much deeper then what I can even understand as I set here and ponder it.

So how do I teach my children about Jesus?

We do our best to take our children to church where they can fellowship with other believers as well as be in God’s presence during worship time and learn from our awesome Children’s pastors, teachers, and nursery teachers who pour into their lives most Sundays!!! I know that I have been so guilty of this with my kids, but it truly is important to at least try to have your children in the main sanctuary during worship time. There is something about the presence of God that teaches our children what we can not. He can bring revelation in a second that can sometimes take a lifetime!!!

We also do some simplistic ways of teaching like Veggie Tales Christian shows, Toddler Beginners Bible, Bible coloring sheets (look on pinterest for coloring sheets and crafts), ect. I also strive to have a little dance party in the mornings with them by turning on some fast children’s praise music and just letting them dance it out, lift their hands, sing, and worship the King!!! Mommas, teaching our children to worship is so so soooooooooooooo vital!!! It is KEY!!! When they get to heaven there will be ALOT of worship going on so we need to make sure that their sweet little hearts are prepared for what one day will be continuous before the Lord!!! (Side note…Also, the dance party allows them to release some energy ha. They usually sleep better at night when they are active during the day!!) ….So, I love Bethel music and their teachings, but I just now came across Bethel Kids Music and its incredible!!! This one is Deep Cries Out, but they have several praise and worship songs on YouTube and if your children love to dance they even have a teacher on some of the videos that teaches them the choreography. As they listen to these songs, it will get into their spirit so be encouraged by that. My Children honestly learn best through music as well, so I teach them Bible Verses through real simplistic Nursery Rhyme tunes. So far Destiny, who will be 5 in a few weeks has learned many bible verses this way!!!

Also, last but not least….another way to teach them is to first and foremost have a open heart to God in the matter!!! Allowing Him to lead you in this is the best way, and the sweet Holy Spirit can take something so practical and use it for His glory to help the kids relate and learn better!!! For example, I checked out some books at the library today for them, and this was one of them, Pink Cupcake Magic ….As I was reading it to my daughter and niece, God begin to help me see how I could relate this book back to Him!!! The book is about a little girl pretending to be a princess in a magical kingdom and she loves cupcakes!!! Well she wanted to explore this kingdom and some boys kept coming to steal her cupcakes and in the end they were turned to frogs temporarily bc of it. Well, I asked them if they knew that they were princesses, for real? They said, YES because of Jesus!!! !!! I then went on to ask them if they knew that God also has a kingdom and it to can be explored. They looked at me with wonder in their eyes….I said yep…its true!!! There is always more to explore in His kingdom as we can never get enough of His presence, Holy Word, and Him!! We could never possibly learn enough when It comes to God!!! But then I said…you know how the boys kept trying to steal those cupcakes?…that’s how Satan does….He tries to kill, steal, and destroy. I told them to never allow Satan to steal what is rightfully theirs as a child of God whether it be there joy or peace ect. They listened, and I do feel like bc I was able to relate it back to this children’s book they were able to understand better then if I just set down and tried to explain this on my own. God is so faithful to lead us in various ways of teaching our children about Him!! We must be willing and open to what the Holy Spirit is telling us to do though. Let’s Pray!!!

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your word tells us to ask and we shall receive!!! Well today, we ask for direction in teaching our children about YOU!! We thank YOU in advance that YOU are leading and guiding us into all truth and light and that YOU are giving us practical ways in our every day lives to get on their level. We ask that YOU would not only give us a open heart to know the hope of YOUR calling in this but that our children would also have an open heart to YOU and grasp the teachings from YOUR Holy Word!!! We thank You in advance for all these things and for the promise of Proverbs 22:6 to take full fruition in their lives. We thank You that they not only know You from and early age, but that they remain close to YOU all the days of their lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen!!!

God bless!!!
